Dark Rock – H.I.M.

In den letzten 3 Blogposts habe ich mich mit den Wegbereitern des Gothic Metal beschäftigt .. diese Bands haben alles beeinflusst was in den nächsten Jahren melancholischen Hard Rock und Metal gemacht hat. Klar gab es noch andere .. wie z.b. Theatre of Tradegy oder My Dying Bride .. allerdings waren diese für mich nicht stilprägend.

Eine Weiterentwicklung des Gothic Metal war für mich persönlich der Dark Rock. Die melancholische Grundstimmung des Gothic Metal blieb erhalten, typische Gitarrensounds und tiefe Bässe ebenso .. allerdings wurden vermehrt Keyboards und Synthesizer eingesetzt. Folge war das viele Bands extrem melodische und harmonische Musik gemacht haben .. nicht mehr so hart wie im Gothic Metal .. das ganze wurde rockiger und viele Songs verfügen oft über markante Hooklines.

So und jetzt keinen Schock bekommen .. eine der ersten Bands die im/mit Dark Rock Erfolg hatten waren H.I.M. mit ihren hervorragendem Debütalbum Greatest Lovesongs Vol. 666 .. aus meiner Sicht ein Meilenstein .. auch wenn die Band definitiv nie wieder an die Qualität dieser Scheibe herankam .. trotzdem hatten sie mit den Nachfolgealben noch mehr Erfolg.
